Rugby

Rugby is a market town on the River Avon in Warwickshire, population 62,790.

Rugby is most famous for the invention of Rugby football, which is played throughout the world. Legend has it that the game was invented by William Webb Ellis in 1823 at Rugby School, one of England's oldest public schools and the setting of Tom Brown's Schooldays.

In the 19th century, Rugby became famous for its once hugely important railway junction.

Rugby is also a birthplace of the jet engine. In April 1937 Frank Whittle built the world's first prototype jet engine at the British Thomson-Houston works in Rugby, and between 1936-41 based himself at Brownsover Hall on the outskirts of the town, where he designed and developed early prototype engines.

I attended your church with my parents deacon Wladek/Waldemar and Elizabeth Keats. My children Anastasia and Arianna from my second marriage were baptized in your font for which I sincerely thank you. I wish to contact you to affirm my faith, as I left the church many years ago and only returned for the celebration of my fathers death and passing on to be with my dearest mother. They are together in Lubenham churchyard where we lived and I grew up as a child. I served as an altar boy in the Church that we attended in London under Bishop Matthew when I was very young. I now reside in the USA in New Hampshire. John/Janek Keats. email glenwood@ne.rr.com.
